We have a new typing program this year from Prentice Hall Publishing which is installed on our school server and all the computers in my classroom. Students can access the program from all computers in the school and the database keeps track of each individual student's scores, for example, the speed and accuracy in each lesson. Students can access their results immediately after a session of keyboarding practice. Each lesson has different sections; Warm-up, Learn, Practice, Test Yourself, Time Yourself, and Games. In the Learn section of the lessons, a graphical demonstration shows students the proper technique for each particular keystroke. In my classroom, we also use the new text book which corresponds with the computer program. The text offers students cross curricular activities as well as various internet research assignments.

I try and use a variety of activities in order to keep students motivated. Each student is provided with an e-mail account on-line which they use to communicate with friends and family. E-mailing will help improve keyboarding skills as well as let the students practice communicating on-line. My keyboarding class has also started to learn Microsoft Word and we will continue to learn other computer applications along with our keyboarding throughout the school year.
